Dustin wrote the song in the studio the morning after the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
“I feel like the whole city just felt weird that day, and it was just this cloud or something that was just like, fuckin’ Trump is going to be our president and I went in there and just wrote those lyrics. It’s just a fucked-up, sad disappointment with the state of things and the country. This song is not about a relationship, it’s about a relationship with [the] country.”
